THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The Industrial Revolution (c.1760–1840) was a transformative period shifting from
agrarian, hand-crafted economies to those dominated by machine-driven, centralized
factory production. It began in Great Britain before spreading to Europe, North America
and eventually the rest of the world. This shift resulted in major economic, social,
political and environmental consequences. Join us as we explore these changes.
Possible Topics: Steam engine, urbanization, factory work, rising middle class, child
labour, spinning jenny, water power looms, increased international trade, agricultural
improvements, unionization, housing issues, health, family structure, role of women,
telegraph, pollution, population increase, opposition to industrialization.
