Activities & Workshops – How they work

Our activity and workshop groups emphasize learning by doing. Participants meet to pursue a common interest and develop/improve their skills in a hands-on, less formal manner. All activities and workshops are led by a volunteer member of SLR who has some expertise in the subject.

Sessions are offered during the fall, winter and spring. Activity and workshop groups generally meet once a week for one and a half to two hours and can be held in the morning or afternoon or sometimes over a lunch hour. They vary in length from three to ten weeks – see each individual activity or workshop for details.

Members of activity and workshop groups are not required to make a presentation but active participation is welcome.

Workshops vary significantly in content – hopefully you can find something that piques your interest. Remember, the intent is for all of us to learn from each other, so don’t be intimidated if the activity or workshop involves a topic or activity you’re not familiar with – you won’t be alone!

Do You Have An Idea For an Activity or Workshop?

Courses are selected by the Curriculum Committees one year in advance and proposals are always welcome.
